It started with a tweet and then a few more… and soon to be call.

@joeloleson Most of the #SharePoint how-to sites I've found (incl SharePoint End User) are very technical. Any how-to sites for non-techies?

@joeloleson The Site Administrators I support are not techies. Mostly admin assts, nurses, librarians, project managers & analysts.

@Catherine_Ford Have you seen the "it's everybody's business?" http://bit.ly/m6ETp re: endusersharepoint.com is too technical. @EUSP

@joeloleson How about screen shots of what other orgs are doing on their intranet? Anywhere I can find something like that

@EUSP Can you recommend any resources for non-techie #SharePoint users? My Site Admins are admin assists, nurses, project mgrs, & analysts.

RT @EUSP: Hi @Catherine_Ford and @joeloleson @SteveSmithCK is in on the Monday, 1:30pm call also. Should b informative discussion.> definite

@Catherine_Ford I'll do a post sometime in the next couple weeks with links. Cool?

So that gives you the high level gist of where this post came from…

In my experience Microsoft puts most emphasis on Developers, IT Pro, BDM/TDM, and finally Information worker.  The PM, Business analyst, Operations Manager, are often neglected in my opinion.  I’ve found a few experts that cater to this area like @meetdux @paulculmsee @andrewwoody

Dux has a book on Project Managers for SharePoint a very easy read.  Paul Culmsee does these mind maps for tying down requirements that’s pretty awesome and Andrew Woodward is the most TDD driven guy I’ve come across.  Very interested in test driven deployments and very systematic.

Bob Mixon has put a lot into Information Architecture and workshops on that topic.

Nicola Young and John Ross at SharePoint911.com have put together a workshop on end user training including on site training.  I worked with them to put together a course on Governance.

Mindsharp has custom end user training, and Steve Smith of Combined Knowledge in the UK has a fabulous system on knowledge and training that’s integrated into an online system for search and reference that can integrate into a help desk as well as training system.

Ruven Gots is one of my favorites in Canada on SharePoint Project Management.

Robert Bogue has put together a Sheperd’s Guide to SharePoint for End users, and now has a DVD for training interactive content.

Most if not all of these people run blogs and have books and do consulting both onsite and in the classroom.  The list goes on.

Developer: MSDN SharePoint 2010 Developer Center - for developer info

IT Pro: TechNET http://www.mssharepointitpro.com - for IT Pro info (a redirect to the SharePoint IT Pro center)

BDM/TDM: Microsoft.com/SharePoint (BDM = Business Decision Maker, TDM = Technical Decision Maker  Ultimately these are the people buying the product, so you get good overviews, ROI, salesy charts, licensing and information guides.  For 2010 that info is at http://sharepoint2010.microsoft.com/product/Benefits/Overview/Pages/default.aspx

Information Worker: http://Office.microsoft.com

The official place where Microsoft wants end users to go to learn about Office and SharePoint is…

The Newsgroups are often a good place to ask questions.  While there are such a thing as a frequently asked question, there isn’t a question that is too easy.  Check out the WSSFAQ and SPSFAQ by the ruler of the forums with 6 metals.

OK.  So here’s the key resources recap plus new:

I think the SharePoint Designer folks deserve their own post, so I didn’t include any of that in this post.

End User SharePoint has become a hub and flurry of information for those working on the user interface, the SharePoint end user Gurus, and those running integration with SharePoint, with resources from the brand new end user to the power user.  I’ve partnered with Mark Miller on a few things including weekly recordings on This week in SharePoint…
