A while back I thought about creating a list of top 100, but then I saw that Ian Morrish has been doing a good job on his SharePoint Internet Websites list and has actually taken thumbnails to build his own top 100 MOSS Sites list. Rather than reinvent the wheel I decided to take a cut at sites from amongst his full list and more recent MOSS announcements, like Ferrari and the Cadbury… mmm. It’s not that we don’t want to keep talking about Hawaiianair.com which by the way is still super cool, we need to have a quick global COOOL list we can refer to. I tried to provide a sampling across industry, region of the world, and style.
(Note many of these sites have other systems integrated on the backend as well, navigation may take you to pages not served by SharePoint. At a minimum I have verified MOSS “Pages libraries,” and IIS 6 Headers coming from response to the initial GET Request.)
(Designed for one million users! Including Orlando, FL)
Those sites are really cool sites, something that I always was wondering abut is the license of MOSS as Internet Facing Site, it's a bit strange 40,000 USD ! so only large companies can use it as Internet site, and still I believe SharePoint is more useful for Intranet. Something interesting, I can show you an Internet site based on WSS, and I'm pretty sure no one else on the world can create such an Internet site by WSS ;)

WSS is Free, I'm about to release my language pack as free download also, so we prefer to use WSS for small companies J

A friend is a Certified MS Partner and is using MOSS for his companies Internet site. Prior to doing so I encouraged him to contact MS Licensing and confirm that the statement used on the partner website, "If you are a Microsoft Certified or Gold Certified Partner, you may use the licenses described in the sections on this page to run your businesses", did not mean internal only. But after three phone calls and numerous email, he has a letter stating that as long as the site does not authenticate external or internal users (anonymous only access), that he can use MOSS 2007 for his companies web site.
