I’m writing a SharePoint “14” book.

I have alluded to writing a book in previous interviews and posts.  Now it’s official.  My co-author Mike Watson has posted it on his brand new post Microsoft blog called The SharePoint Mad Scientist.  (He provides details about his new SharePoint lab he just put together as well as other SharePoint deep thoughts.  Good stuff!)

The book isn’t just another 2007 book, it’s going to be about the 14 stuff, the next SharePoint wave.  The vNext of SharePoint in a definitive guidebook.  One that goes from what’s new for end users, IT, and Devs, deploying and building a service, prescriptive guidance, to actual installation steps.  Should be an interesting challenge.  I plan to post snippets from the book, here to gather feedback.  So thanks in advance for being my alpha/beta book review team.  I will be limiting the content to that which is already non requiring NDA approved content until the NDA is lifted.  Did you hear that the alpha bits are in the hands of special folks.  Mary Jo Folley mentioned “select testers” have the alpha bits.  I can’t deny or confirm. :) But suffice to say, I have begun writing my book.

The publisher is O’Reilly the one with the cool animals on the books.  I do have to wonder what the best animal to describe SharePoint is.  I’ve seen the essential SharePoint book, and Jeff Webb is great, but I don’t think his animal is the best description.  Not big or hairy enough :)..

I like the camel analogy

Thanks John

Let's be nice and say that on one end it can take you places no other beast could, across deserts...

But on the other end it could spit in your eye even though you pour your heart and soul into it.

Great idea on the book...will be waiting for it

Grats on the book...I know it will be greatly received.

Maybe use a "Capybara" for the cover picture...from WikiPedia:

"Capybaras are social animals, usually found in groups, between 10 and 30 (though larger groups of up to 100 sometimes can be formed)..."

Kinda sounds like the "SharePoint Animal" to me :)
